Family Intensive Training Program

PURPOSE: Provide time-limited, group behavioral training for you together with your children to most effectively teach you how to support your children’s social behavior and manage problem behaviors that interfere with social success. Flyer

PROGRAM SERVICES OFFERED TO:

  • Parents Of Children Diagnosed With An Autism Spectrum Disorder: Ages 5-10
  • Children Diagnosed With An Autism Spectrum Disorder: Ages 5-10 Years: Two Skill Levels

INITIAL ASSESSMENT PHASE:  12 hours: Child & Parent
Child Assessment is focused on establishing cognitive functioning level, adaptive and language abilities, behavioral challenges, and social skill training needs.
Parent Assessment is focused on establishing parenting strengths and challenges, stressors, and general training needs.

[ PHASE I: WEEKS 1-3:  Weekly 2 hour group ]
Parent Total Group Hours: 6 & 4.5 individual consultation hours*
Child Total Group Hours: 6

Interactional-based assessment: Your Child will participate in three weeks of group time with their peers and Behavior Coach to begin to practice social skills in a structured activity group. Your Behavior Coach will have the opportunity to get to know your child’s behavioral strengths and needs, and develop initial behavioral intervention plans.
Parents: You will participate in a three week FIT Orientation to prepare for your role in the FIT group and how you will support your child’s practice of social skills.

[ PHASE II: WEEKS 4-16:  Weekly 2 hour group ]
Total Service Hours: 24 group hours; 18 individual consultation hours*
Week 4: You attend an introductory session to meet the staff, discuss the structure of Phase II and how you will work with your child in the group.

Week 5-15: You and your child attend the social skills groupBehavior Coach works together with you to help your child to practice social skills with their peers and decrease problem behaviors.

Week 16: You attend a transition planning session for Phase III work in the community.  This work will take place in dyads with you, your child, another parent, child and two Behavior Coaches.

**NOTE: Weeks 4 & 16 do not include group time for your child. This is time for you to meet with other parents, your Group Facilitator and the Behavior Coaches.

[ PHASE III: WEEKS 17-19:  Weekly 2 hour group  ]
Total Service Hrs: 8 group;  6 individual consultation hours*

You and your child work in dyads with another parent, child and two Behavior Coaches to assist you with learning how to help your child to practice social skills in the community.
Phase III takes place in problematic environments selected by you and other parents such as parks, malls, grocery stores, sports activities & restaurants.

PHASE IV: WEEKS 20-22: Weekly 2 hour training session
Total Service Hrs: 6 w/Behavior Coach;  4.5 individual consultation hours*

In this phase you and your child will continue your work with only your Behavior CoachThis training phase will take place in problematic settings selected by you in the geographic area where you live.  This might include such settings as scout troop meetings, family gatherings, birthday parties, grocery stores, restaurants etc.

* PHASE II- IV: Individual Parent Consultation

During Phases I-IV individual parent consultation or additional practice sessions up to 1.5 hours per week will be delivered upon request. The purpose of this contact is to assist you outside the group with applying the skills learned in the group if you are having difficulty or need some additional direction or practice to implement the strategies at home or in the community with your child. This consultation or practice is provided by the Behavior Coach assigned to you and your child.
